kieran 4 Report post Posted February 12, 2017 Thinking about ARE cars and reading some interesting paragraphs had me looking through some more pictures. 1 in particular was the Macau guia Tim Harvey car and seeing photos the car in question does have a blue inside colour, which would correspond with a paragraph I read that said this was he's labatt's Sierra ARE 0389, shows how far these cars got around. kieran 4 Report post Posted May 8, 2017 Anyone know this car? Saw it have a Andy Rouse Engineering tag but didn't have time to look at numbers.
PAUL S 11 Report post Posted May 9, 2017 Only pic I have ever seen of anything similar is this one, which from hazy memory was a converted Merkur used for promotion when the 3dr entered the btcc. Those look recent? whats the story on the car?
Roy 22 Report post Posted May 10, 2017 These pics were on facebook.
PAUL S 11 Report post Posted May 12, 2017 Looks like someone has found and restored that converted Rouse Merkur then in that period promo pic, based on the tags build date :-) I don't recall it ever running in that scheme though either as a 3dr or an RS500 I always thought it had morphed into the ANZ car that was later converted to lhd (then recently back to rhd) as that was also a Merkur shell to start with. ARE 87005 is the Rouse / Moffat / Tassin ANZ car for Bathurst '87 and was a new build for that year rather than an XR4Ti conversion.
PAUL S 11 Report post Posted August 14, 2017 Ah ok, I recall Martin saying it ran the full length Merkur chassis rails when he owned it?
Roy 22 Report post Posted August 15, 2017 I've learned you could get 909 chassis rails as an extra to siffen up the car.
Wireless 2 Report post Posted August 15, 2017 Paul and Roy - I can't comment on the configuration of the car when Martin had it, but when I looked into buying that actual car last year, I did my due diligence. Part of this was speaking to Andy Rouse and I asked him explicity whether 87005 was originally built as a Merkur and he confirmed it wasn't. It was a brand new build during '87. Hope this helps. PAUL S 11 Report post Posted August 15, 2017 Yes you could Roy, from memory they were shown in the "How to prepare the Sierra for motorsport book" I used to own. The ANZ car though was the only one I had heard of that had them fitted, which made me think it could have originally been a Merkur shell, but it seems that was a red herring. Wonder why just this chassis had them retro fitted. Whats the back story to the Motorcraft liveried car Roop/Roy? that has recently surfaced.
Roy 22 Report post Posted August 15, 2017 I know the Speedware DTM winning car also has them fitted. What I have understood from the Motorcraft liveried car is that is was the test mule for the Cosworth used by Rouse.
RS 500 Registrar 16 Report post Posted November 1, 2017 The " extra " chassie rails were a 909 motorsport part that could be bought to retro fit to the sierra chassie , these were not fitted to many as it was said it made the car to stiff

Roy 22 Report post Posted November 24, 2017 Correct, but Larkham was never mentioned on the car. I doubt he even drove the car on race dat.
kieran 4 Report post Posted April 29, 2018 A friend of mine sent me this picture, this was taken in 2016. Anybody has any information? Looks like a 1989 car but in the 1988 livery.
Roy 22 Report post Posted April 29, 2018 It is one of the 88 cars according to the owner. Lots of things changed though. Suspension, wheels, air jack nozzle, cage.

Sounds good Roy, you’ve got a chassis number to add to the first page? Any history on it?
Roy 22 Report post Posted April 30, 2018 If what the owner is telling is correct we have the chassis number and full history. Just not allowed to publicly share it...

Good news that the car is known, shame about so much cloak and dagger with all the chassis numbers, to be fair it’s seems that way across the board for Sierra RS500’s now.
