WOLF SIERRA HWRT 1987 005

Recommended Posts

Interesting that the one Marlboro car pictures above was once the 87 rouse ics car as I thought they were converted to rs500 spec towards the end of the season 87? The car above is a 3 door.

The Marlboro car you are talking about here was a Dutch car. Here is a better picture of the car were you can see the colour of the rollcage:

I have spoken to the team owner last year and he told me they (the team sponsored by Ford Netherlands) bought the car in 1988 directly from Rouse. First they wanted to buy an Eggenberger car but Ford Netherlands thought it was too expensive so they opted for a Rouse car. The car started it's life as a regular 3dr or Merkur, that sadly is unknown too me, and was upgraded to RS500 spec by Rouse before the car went to The Netherlands. I don't know if the car has raced in the UK in it's RS500 spec before it went overseas. Sadly after one year Ford Netherlands found the car to expensive to run. Allthough they won the group a class over here. The car has been sold back te Rouse and after that it's unknown to me.

Whats your theory on the Marlboro car then Martyn, sharing the same build number as yours?

the marlboro car is almost identicle to the 001 car ! the 005 car has a completely different floor pan but we know that it was a murcur from 1985-86 (no:12 billen blue white car) and was converted to rs500 spec in late 87. how it has the same no is a mystery and only uve wolf knows how or why ! what is known is that they are not the same car and have never shared any parts ! strange .....

The only ever " WORKS "cars were Eggmo Texaco cars mate , just because a car has eggmo parts doesnt make it a " works " car

er paul the above is not quite correct and i would assume that you of all people would know this !

WELL FEEL FREE TO CORRECT ME AND TELL ME WHAT OTHER CARS WERE " OFFICIAL WORKS CARS " ??

Funny , i was talking to Stuart Turner the other day and we oftern talk about rs500 race history when we chat , and even he says the only OFFICIAL works cars are the eggmo Texaco cars

And if your going to say he is wrong then your a brave man because if he doesnt know then we all may as well pack up and go home  :-X

There were many other " Ford assisted " cars  inc Andy rouse / Wolf etc , but they were never official works team cars / drivers

But if you know better then please let me know as im never to old to learn , and i wouldnt doubt Mr Turner would also be interested as it was him who held the ford budgets at the time

i'm sure mr turner knows his onions but he was uk based was he not . the germans as allway did there own thing  and spent loads of dosh doing it . here is an extract from wolf that i google translated coz i dont speak the lingo.

1984 - 1989

To the DTM German Touring Car Championship DTM

In the years 1984 - 1985 go to the Ford Motorsport department in Cologne rarely the lights. High pressure will build on the vehicle and developed with the Ford wants to enter the German Touring Car Championship. In 1985, it's time. Before running on the Berlin Avus DTM Ford announces the entry into the DTM, and HWRT tuning gets the work order to perform the operation for the remaining races for Ford. And what everyone has hoped, but no one thought possible, Klaus Niedzwiedz succeed the first victory in the DTM at the HWRT Ford Mercury XR4 TI on the Avus circuit in Berlin.

Wolf Racing has successfully operated in the 70s, 80s and 90s racing, Ford built many factory teams and achieved many successes. The WOLF built, known racing cars based Sierra Cosworth Escort RS and Focus RS were milestones - and extremely popular with motorsport fans. More than 30 victories and 100 podium finishes to prove their impressive performance. And the WOLF racing spirit lives today in the finished vehicles.

Exactly as i said mate

Ford " assisted " cars built by wolf ,,ASSISTED , BY FORD

The only ever WORKS cars are the Texaco cars

Plus i spoke at length with Stuart regards rs500s racing over seas

You will  be aware that the Texaco cars competed very little in england as Ford wanted european ( world championship ) titles not realy british , hence why the cars were all LHD for european drivers ( Steve soper was happy to drive LHD )

Ford couldnt build all the cars on the Grid to make sure they won every race , so to keep big ford grid numbers they supported other builders / teams to insure big ford numbers that would and did make sure Ford places in the top 3 ,,it sure worked as Ford cars oftern finished 1st to 6th with no other manufacturer in sight

The facts are still there tho ,,Texaco cars were pure Ford works cars , and driven by ford works drivers and the others such as Rouse / wolf were " ford assisted "

Why do you think that the Texaco cars are the most valuable in the world

Race cars values are and always have been the same for rs500s

1, Texaco " works cars "

2, DJR cars

3, Rouse own cars / eggmo and wolf own cars

4, Rouse built customer cars / eggmo customer cars / wolf customer cars

5, all other privateer cars

This is of course my opinion of how these cars are valued

There obviously are variants in the scale depending on a cars success , but we could be here all day listing individual cars , so my scale is a simple one and each car will be valued on its own merrit

I value race rs500s on

1, who built it

2, who drove it

3, what it achieved ( wins etc )

4. Condition and origonaity

5, Paperwork ( providonce )

6, Vehicle spec ( eggmo etc always add value due to better spec )

7, public awarness ( paint scheme etc , ie, is it a well know car to the public eye )

All again is my opinion

Maybee you should have a chat with mr Turner , Im sure he will know all about the involvments with ford and wolf etc as im also quite sure he was head of ford motorsport europe at the time ( please correct me if im wrong )

maybee google is your friend , but its well known that google oftern gives wrong info as much as correct as its only as good as the info somone puts onto the net

:D

Ps, im interested to know what " wolf " cars you class as Ford works cars ??

You may know somthing i dont , and can tell us what cars were built that Ford paid the total bill for , this would then make them ford works cars

Im always looking to learn more about these great cars and there history so look forward to some education as this was the whole reason for this website  :)
