There is a new invitation series for group a RS500 up to 1990 They will join the existing legends grid so basically touring cars from the 60s to the 90s here is there web site http://www.motorracinglegends.com/ you will find all you need there they are a very friendly bunch ... it would be so good to see a good grid of these cars

    We hope to have 4 cars there all on track bmw tisa (u2tc) bmw e30 m3 listerine Vic Lee car ( supertoures hscc) rs500 Imberti and djr2 (legends) if there all ready lol ........so will be a busy day both Max and I will be driving he has also been asked to drive a Lola for someone

    Hi rich back in the day all race cars for group a had homologation papers from the fia basically a set of rules this is the web site https://historicdb.fia.com/ .......if you build the car to the homologation you can then apply for htp papers at the moment htp rs 500 cosworths can race in most series ....... the car will be more expensive to build but will be worth more .....basically it all started with the more exotic cars gt40..... 250gto.....zargarto aston etc because prices for these cars are crazy so clubs said if you have the original car you can build a replica hence htp that was maybe 10/15 years ago it’s just carried on from there .... bit of topic but the aston martin zargarto vev2 is up for auction at Goodwood this year estimate £15 million there is a picture of it in 1962 at Goodwood with Jim Clark driving it being involved in an accident with a 250 gto driven buy john surtees then a 250 swb crashed into them 2 laps later a £50 million pound car crash in today’s money

    Hi all Thanks Roy just try to tell it as it is always enjoy your posts by the way .........hi rich HTP stands for Historic technical passport basically you can build a car with no history but it has to conform to the rules of the day they will send out a person to inspect the car then give it its papers at a cost of course around £1200 they are now introducing it to genuine cars as well paul and I have to get our cars htp this year some series only accept genuine cars you say you have 2 cars yourself would you ever race them ? hi Paul I like the BMW’s which m sport do you have is it a classic or new as for the xr4i I’ve always liked them And with that mileage sounds like a keeper .... rs500 prices have gone mad but most other classic cars have as well .....I was very lucky paul got me a moonstone blue rs500 some time ago max and I use it the most out of all our classics we just love it .....we had it at the Silverstone classic last year a stone went through the radiator on the way home had to get towed home by the RAC lol .....there is talk of a road test between that car and djr 2 for a magazine when she’s finished a comparison as such

    Hi rich the car was a race car when I bought it but the guy who owned it had done a couple of tarmac rallys with it at his local car club ..........you must remember they didn’t really have a value and there was no where to race them it came with paperwork that had djr2 on it I must admit I new trackstar but not Dick Johnson........I was racing a lotus cortina and a dolomite sprint in a classic series which was split up into years pre 65 pre 74 and pre 84 I I think .........they then introduced pre 90 which is why I purchased djr2 we did one race spa with it and the club said I couldn’t race in the full championship because it was for group n cars not group a so I got a price to convert djr to group n but was advised not to go ahead with the work so I put it in barn and basically forgot about it.......my son was at Autosport (some 14 years later)he phoned me and said there was a car like ours in caltex colours (Paul’s car) I was going to the show next day so went to see Paul’s car ......being Paul he basically gave me a hail of abuse which I didn’t mind but I said to him do you want to restore it he said if it’s the car which it isn’t I will restore it for and gave me silly price....... I said ok be in your yard Tuesday from his to mine is 3 hours ish of course it was the car and we stared restoring djr 2 paul and I have become friends we gave him his first drive on track in a group a cosworth at Silverstone he then got his Msa license and look at him 2 race cars and driving the Bastos car at gold cup I am very lucky and have quite a few race cars so there was no real rush but we are nearly there now and I am getting very exited to drive djr ......I don’t usually post mainly because my English and spelling is not great thank god for spell check i have posted this essay mainly because we our just the owner of the car at this moment in time and with idjr being what it is we can fill in 20 years of its history

    Hi Paul To jump in and answer your question ive had the car for nearly 20 years (so still same owner) we took the car to spa and ran it in the one hour race many years ago we had a problem in qualifying so started 96th we came through the field and got in the top ten and then ran out of petrol in 59th minute lol so has some good memories so not for sale "...........we have just entered our other RS500 (Imberti) into racing ledgers series we entered all 5 races and they have kindly said that we can run either car as it’s an invitation race so no points ....... trying to get Paul to come out to play even if it’s just the classic again .... i would like to thank Paul and his team for all there hard work the car looks stunning and for everyone’s kind words

Re bmw I have the listerine m3e30 vic lee car so this car was on my shopping list (of course for the right money) the shell was very similar to a matter shell if not a matter shel basically it was a rolling shell with running gear with the right dog leg getrag gearbox but all other bits missing it wasn't bad money if you could fine some history (I did think there would be some because of the build centre locks and air jacks on it) but it came up before the csi group a I decided to keep my money for that car in the end I got neither but think you are right not a bad price
  20. Wish I had stayed at home there were 5000 bidders at he auction don't know how many on line if you go to the rm Sotheby's web site all the prices and details are there when you see them you will see how crazy the prices were 30k plus for a Coca Cola sign lol

Hi all I am still in italy now the rs 500 needed a lot of work and money spent on it.iI came to buy the csi group a I thought I had a good budget but prices were crazy a load of us from the uk sat together all were there to buy various cars nobody got anything the romour was that there were 15000 bidders registered all paying 100 euro each for sure people got carried away but it's is the biggest auction ever in Europe there was some fantastic stuff there

  24. What fuel do the Touring cars use?

    Hi We used a race fuel that is controlled its a 102 octane I think in the day they used a bigger octane than us I think it was 107/9 But stand to be corrected You can use tesco 99 and put in a octane booster for testing to keep costs down Ian

    Hi Carl I have the same unit in my bmw and gave it to Andy I agree with jim the cost of these engines now you need to do all you can to protect them. A newer Ecu will give you a lot more information so you can make better decisions on race day not to go quicker but to see if there is any small engine problems which may turn into big ones Also I could only find one person to service the Zytec unit in the uk we had an over fuelling problem which was washing the bores. It took weeks to try and sort it out we fitted a newer Ecu it took half a day to get the car right We will be fitting a newer Ecu to Djr 2 so we can get feed back from the engine as we want the engine to last the season
